Eureka Equinox 6 Tent
Observations and Review

Design and Features Walkthrough

The Eureka Equinox 6 Tent utilizes a unique hexagon design that allows it to stand out at campgrounds.

This 6 sided tent has 3 wall panels that are covered by the rainfly alternating with 3 exposed walls that contain the door and 2 large windows.

The large mesh windows and door allow a view in all directions from inside the tent. Roll-down storm flaps over the windows and door open to expose the screen or zip closed to seal against rain and wind.

Solid ceiling fabric forms a dome peak and contains a mesh ventilation panel that can be closed off with a zippered flap. This allows the tent to be completely sealed against drafts.

Brow poles allow the rainfly to form a brim over the upper windows and door, so that the screens can be left open in the rain.

The unique hexagon design provides a lot of storage space inside the tent, so it does not need a vestibule.

This tent should fit on a 10'x10' tent pad, although a bit of ingenuity may be necessary when staking it down.

Eureka Equinox 6 Tent in Warm and Cool Weather

2 large mesh windows and a front mesh door give this tent a lot of ventilation in warm weather.

3 large breathable walls help moisture escape from the tent body and reduce condensation.

The storm flaps and sealable ceiling vent allow the tent to be completely closed up in cool weather to prevent any drafts.

Equinox 6 in Wind and Rain

The triple coated 1200mm rainfly and walls keep rain from penetrating the tent.

The Eureka Equinox 6 Tent features a heavy duty Oxford nylon bathtub floor to keep standing water out of the tent and to resist wear.

In wind-driven rain, the closable ceiling vent prevents any sidespray from getting through ceiling mesh.

The 6 pole hexagon structure reduces the size of the walls and allows the tent to more easily shed wind.

This is however a cabin tent and should be thoroughly secured with guylines in moderate to strong winds.

The tent is freestanding and can be unstaked and turned while pitched so that the door is out of the wind or rain.

In strong wind, the brow pole over the door can be removed and a drawstring in the fly edge bordering the door can be cinched tight to keep wind from catching the fly and to protect the door from wind-driven rain.

The steep roof will allow rain to easily shed without pooling.

Because it is fully closable, this tent should be suitable for dusty and sandy campsites.

Equinox 6 Sleeping Capacity and Equipment

The 81 square feet of floorspace is rated to sleep 6.

Campers need to use special consideration when estimating the sleeping capacity of a hexagon tent for their needs.

Campers will find that the floorspace of this tent style is more circular than rectangular.

This tent should comfortably sleep 2-3 adults or perhaps a family of 4 with young children.

Campetent recommends that campers not try to maximize the sleeping capacity of this tent, but instead take advantage of its unique shape in order to maximize personal space and store extra equipment.

The Equinox 6 would be a fun tent for a tent camping couple that wanted extra space.

This tent should comfortably hold 1 queen or 2 twin mattresses. It should also hold two regular cots.

Basic geometry indicates that each of the 6 outer walls of this tent is approximately 5'10" in length, perhaps an inch or two less.

Equinox 6 Specs and Setup

The tent design is a 6 pole hexagonal cabin tent with umbrella hub.

The tent dimensions are 10' from wall to opposite wall and 11'8" from floor corner to opposite floor corner.

The center height is 6'7".

The rainfly and exposed tent wall fabric are 75D, 1200mm-coated polyester taffeta.

The covered tent wall fabric is 75D uncoated polyester taffeta.

The bathtub floor is heavy duty, 210D Oxford Nylon - coated to 1200mm HH.

The screens are 40D, no-see-um polyester netting.

The Equinox 6 does not have any low vents, but the large windows and door screen should easily ventilate the tent.

The tent body clips to the pole frame allowing the tent to be set up very quickly.

The pole frame attaches to the tent base with ring and pin connectors.

Conclusion

This unique tent will be fun to camp in, as long as campers do not over occupy it.

The hexagonal design will stand out from the other rectangular tents at the campground.

The tent will have the feel of a round tent instead of a rectangular one.

The 1200mm coated fabric and heavy-duty floor give this tent good resistance to rain and standing water.
